Notes
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Vegetable Filling
- Heat sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat.
- Add minced garlic and ginger, sautéing until fragrant.
- Stir in the shredded cabbage, carrots, bell peppers, and bean sprouts.
- Add soy sauce and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring frequently, until the vegetables are slightly softened but still retain some crunch.
- Remove the skillet from heat and let the mixture cool for a few minutes.
Step 2: Assemble the Spring Rolls
- Lay a spring roll wrapper on a flat surface with one corner pointing toward you (diamond shape).
- Place 2 tablespoons of the vegetable filling near the bottom corner of the wrapper.
- Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold in the sides, and roll tightly to form a log shape.
- Use the cornstarch slurry to seal the edge of the wrapper.
- Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
Step 3: Preheat the Air Fryer
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3 minutes.
Step 4: Air Fry the Spring Rolls
- Lightly spray the spring rolls with vegetable oil spray on all sides.
- Arrange the rolls in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they don’t touch or overlap.
- Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy.
Step 5: Cool and Serve
- Allow the spring rolls to cool for 5 minutes before serving.
- Serve warm with dipping sauces like sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, or peanut sauce.
Tips for Success
- Avoid Overfilling: Use just enough filling to ensure the rolls don’t tear or burst during cooking.
- Seal Tightly: Properly sealing the edges helps prevent the filling from spilling out.
- Don’t Overcrowd the Basket: Leave space between the spring rolls for even cooking and crispiness.
Side Dish and Beverage Pairings
- Side Suggestions: Pair with a light soup, fried rice, or a fresh cucumber salad.
- Beverage Pairings: Serve with iced green tea, sparkling water, or a crisp white wine.
Variations
- Protein Additions: Add shredded chicken, shrimp, or tofu to the filling for extra protein.
- Spicy Spring Rolls: Mix chili flakes or sriracha into the vegetable filling for a spicy kick.
- Gluten-Free Option: Use gluten-free wrappers and tamari instead of soy sauce.
